This painting is inspired by a cat that often rested on the chodrom in the altar room of our village house when I was young. Calm and unbothered, he would sleep or quietly watch the room. At night, rats would come and gnaw at the sacred religious objects kept there. Strangely, the cat never chased them. He simply watched—still, silent, almost meditative.
To me, he felt like a Sungma, a guardian who was always present, yet never intervened.
