Garuda
Acrylic on canvas,
16” by 12”.
2025.
In this still life, I explored the Garuda mask in a quieter, more intimate setting. I wanted to take something powerful and fierce, and place it in a moment of stillness. The mask’s intense expression, its horns, and its protective symbolism are all present — but I balanced that energy with the softness of the blue feathers I imagined for this piece.
The feathers represent a gentler side of the Garuda, a side we don’t usually see. I liked the contrast of strength and delicacy, shadow and light, myth and imagination. The warm background and cooler foreground helped me create a calm atmosphere, letting the mask rest instead of roar.
This piece is from my November painting session — a small study of contrast, symbolism, and the stories we can create even from still objects.
